Host families needed!

The Summer Camp we will be hosting next June is getting closer and closer and we are getting more and more excited! We would like to start sign-ups immediately for host families who will host delegates over the weekend before the camp starts.

Host families will host two 14 year olds (boys or girls). The dates are Friday afternoon June 18 through Sunday early afternoon June 20, 2010.

The commitment involves the following: pick up delegates at SFO sometime Friday, take them to your home and host them Fri evening, all day Saturday, and part of Sunday. We will request that delegates land no later than 4PM on Friday. On Sunday, delegates will need to be taken to Livermore at 1:30PM where they will board a bus which will take them to the Summer Camp site in Oakhurst. We will try to organize carpooling to Livermore to avoid multiple cars driving from the same areas.

Volunteering as a host family is an enriching experience for the entire family as all family members participate in the fun of hosting youth from another country. The purpose of including host family stays in CISV programs is to give the delegates an opportunity to learn about the local culture by living with a local chapter family for a weekend. It is also to give host families the fun of getting to know youth from around the world. We encourage host families to take delegates on an outing while hosting them to give the delegates a chance to see the local area. But host families should not feel they need to spend a lot of money. Trips to the beach, to a park or hiking on a trail do not cost money but are great fun to the delegates. Sleeping accommodations are preferred to be beds but comfortable sleeping bags and pads are acceptable. Delegates will not have sleeping bags with them.

To be a host family, there are several steps that must be completed so please apply as soon as possible. First, host families must be current chapter members (family membership is $50). Also, host families must provide DMV driving records for all drivers over 25 (drivers under 25 may not drive CISV delegates), proof of current car insurance, and a "livescan" criminal background check (instructions) must be completed for all family members over 18 at your expense. There are many "Livescan" locations in the bay area and the cost ranges from $15 to $40 per person. There is also a host family application form which asks a variety of questions including contact information, who are the members of your family that will be there during the hosting weekend, type of car(s) you drive, whether you have pets and so on. You may specify if you would like to host girls or boys. Usually a few delegations arrive a day or two early and leave a day after camp ends. The form will ask if you can accommodate a delegation arriving early or an extra night at the end of camp. Here are the countries which will be sending delegations to our camp.

Brazil (BRA)
Colombia (COL)
Denmark (DEN)
Germany (GER)
Greece (GRE)
Hungary (HUN)
Spain (ESP)
Sweden (SWE)
USA (USA)

To apply to be a host family or if you have questions, please email our hosting coordination team, Marc Siegel or Anton Krukowski , at hostfamilies@cisvsf.org. They will get you going on forms and and provide other instructions.

WANTED: JB Event Locations for the East or South Bay

We'd really like to find a low cost location or two to hold JB events in the East Bay and South Bay.  The JB Advisors and JB Board Members have been looking for locations and have not had any luck finding something cost effective.  We'd really like to have half of our events in the East or South Bay.  The ideal location is a church or local community center.  If you have any connections or could help us find sites, please e-mail JB Co-Advisors, Mariel Bautista at chef.mariel@gmail.com or Tracey Fecher at tracey.cisvsf@pacbell.net
